Quai des Brumes is the title of a very famous novel (1927) by French writer Pierre MacOrlan.
It is also the title of a famous movie (1938) by Marcel Carné and Jacques Prévert, it is a masterpiece of the French Front Populaire era, the first socialist government in Europe (1936-1938); a government that made some very important reforms regarding worker’s rights.
Both the novel and movie tell stories about Parisian proletarians, in the fantastique social style, a kind of epic urban poetry.
In that era of democracy and freedom, Paris was the safe house for a big range of persecuted people forced to run from racism, civil wars and dictatorships: African-Americans, Jewish, Spanish, Italians, Gypsies...
So Paris became a crossroad for all sorts of cultures and musical genres, above all jazz and gipsy jazz,of which ,Django Reinhardt was the master guitarist.

Our project aims to express the following: Quai des Brumes, “Port of Shadows” (“of Fog”, literally), because Ports are meeting places where travelers and migrants can express and exchange their cultures. Our contemporary world is in need of such harbors...
Quai des Brumes trio explores a mesmerizing musical melting pot, of Sidney Bechet jazz (“Petite Fleur”, “Si tu vois ma mère”), Gipsy jazz (“Nunn, o pani naschella”, “Songe d'automne”, “Flambée Montalbanaise”), french chansonniers (songs by Charles Trenet, Léo Ferré, Georges Brassens, Serge Gainsbourg).
Our aim is to re-create the atmosphere of the Paris we spoke of above, maybe an imaginary town, as the fantastique social artists wished to create: so the brume, the fog, is the mystery of all human encounters. As the great Louis-Ferdinand Céline wrote in Voyage au bout de la nuit (1932): Tout ce qui est intéressant se passe dans l'ombre, décidemment (“No doubt, all things interesting happen in the shadow”).
